It is one year ago that my Mom went home to Heaven

This is a photo of my mom, Margaret Nelson.
This was taken a few months before she died.
She passed away one year ago today.
I wrote a poem when it happened but my feelings were too raw
and close to the surface to share then.
One year later I want to share it now.
Our Mother Died Today
Our mother died today-
for us it is a sad day-
Words hushed to a whisper in reverence,
an empty place
where she has always been
Tears brushed away from
already dampened cheeks
Our Mother died today-
For her it is a happy day-
Glad reunion with those gone on before,
Husband, mother, father, brother
Relief from pain
Release from a body no longer useful.
Our Mother died today-
And yet more alive than ever
Hearing now the voice only heard by faith before,
"Well done, Good and Faithful Servent."

My two brothers, Mark and David and my sister Carole and myself miss her a lot.

She was a good person but more than that she was a good Christian.

We were Blessed beyond measure in having her as our Mother.

  1. Your mother's face has a sweet gentle look, Donna. I know the pain is still pesent for you, it will be 3 years in June, that I lost my mother and it still hurts. I'm glad you shared the lovely poem you wrote, I and my granddaughter did the same.

  2. Hi Donna!
My mom died 3 years ago this past Feb. 12th. I still miss her so much. I have not posted yet all my Easter decorations but as I was fixing my kitchen table, I place some little rabbits. The year before my mom died, she walked .7 miles a day and would walk by our house. Each day, near Easter, she left a little bunny in the yard near some of my decorations. As I put them out this year, tears came to my eyes.
Thanks for sharing your poem and your mom's picture.
    Love,
    Marie
