Charleston, SC and a wild start for 2011

Have you been to Charleston, SC?
It is a wonderful town.
There are so many old (1700's) houses.

This place is full of History.
The Battery is a street lined with old, old mansions
and on the water front.
You can look across the water and see Fort Sumter.

The best way to learn about the city is to take a
carriage ride with a tour guide that is just overflowing
with facts about the city.

Can you believe that Ironwork??

Isn't this just lovely?

Don had some business to do in Charleston
so I tagged along and we made it a 3 day weekend.

We did the tour and also went out on our own later and
walked the French Quarter and the Street Market.

We had a great time.

This was the first week of January.
when we got home we had a week of unusual events:

I broke my tooth (back one and it cost $900. to fix)

Don got gout in his wrist, very painful and he had started painting the kitchen, so it had to be put on hold for a while

The very next day he went to the Dr. and that evening,
I went to the kitchen and turned on the light and we heard a
pop and the electricity went off to the refrigerator.

The following day we had an electrician come and
he looked all over and could not find the problem.
He went under the house and found a connection
that had been burned (black melted wire)
Thank you Lord, no fire in our house.

While looking for the electrical problem we found that our
hot water heater was rusted so badly
that it needed to be replaced.

The next day the roofers came to replace our roof.
(this is something we had planned for the first good streak of
weather after the Christmas holiday.)
They ripped of the shingles from part of the house
and it started storming.
A freak storm in our part of town!
This caused a 3 day job to last about 6 days.

We finished the kitchen and the roof and things were getting
back to normal.
Then, I learned what happens when you
spill a whole glass of iced tea on your computer keyboard.

You get a lot of frustration and you don't blog for a while until
you have time and $ to replace it.

So, that's what 2011 has been for us so far.

I'm hoping that it started off this way so I'll have
smooth sailing for the rest of the year!!

But even if it is not, God is Good ALL the time!!

Such a blessing to just trust Him and enjoy the ride.

  6. My goodness Donna, what else could happen? At least you had memories of the trip to help keep your sanity. I am sure you got all the bad stuff out of the way. I was in Charleston once long ago and it is a fascinating place. Praying your week is going well. Dee :)

  7. I'm a new follower. Thanks for following me at www.mamawsplace4.blogspot.com. We have been going to Myrtle Beach about 25 years and I finally got to do a day trip to Charleston last year. I was enchanted. The "painted ladies" are beautiful old homes and I love the market place where I got to buy a sweet grass basket a lady was making. But I absolutely loved the big pineapple fountain. That was so cool. Thanks for sharing pics.
