chair make over



I've been busy working on some projects.



This chair I got free from the Thrift Store.
It had middew on the wooden part and it was put in the free area.
I washed it with bleach and let it dry in the sun.
Don spray painted it.
Then I waited.
For a long time, like 6 or 8 months until just the right
fabric came into the Thrift Store as a donation.
It was 2 yards of 60 wide.
I paid $2.00 for it.

Voila!!
New chair for the sun room.



Don't ya just love to play around with Mod Podge?




The first tray I made to give to a friend that loves
French decorating.

The second is for the thrift store.




Both of  the trays started out like this.
They came in as a donation in the store.
I spray painted the sides black,
then began to cut from a design book I got in the store.
I used some pages from an old sheet music book also.

I used Mod Podge to stick the pictures on and
gave them 3 coats of the Mod Podge to seal the pictures in.

They turned out cute, If I do say so myself.

And, they were fun to do.



stenciling a pillow top

I spent some of my day making this pillow
for the guest bedroom.

I cut my material for the front and back and
for the ruffle

then I placed my stencil on the fabric with masking tape.

I used a stencil brush and some acrylic paint
( the brush must be dry when you put the paint on
and then pounce it a few times on some paper)
Oh, and don't forget to put some paper  between your
pieces of fabric.

When your paint is dry, lift off the stencil.
and you are now ready to sew the pillow.

Oh, did I mention that this pillow started out as
this skirt? 

(and I am sure that you know where this skirt came from)

You can make more than one pillow from a
thrift store skirt.

I know what I'm talking about!!

I made the flower from the same skirt and a
broken pearl necklace.

OK, thats all I have for today.

Tomorrow its back to work at theThrift Store.

It's Valentines Day and the
Thrift Store is looking pretty good.
I made the above items from donated items.



This globe is really nice,
as is the elephant base.



What do you think of this bed frame?
do you see that the mirrors are attached to the headboard?
The metal frame is on the floor in front.
The side armoirs are wonderful.
There is a chest of drawers to the left.

Our kitchen room is looking good too!

This book bundle was made from what is left of the books
when you tear the pages out for the book wreaths.
It is another Thrifty Craftin' project.
Don't ya love the earring I glued on for some bling?

More craftin'

I'm getting ready for another
Craftin' in the Thrift Store demo.

This week it is lace covered luminaries.

When you paint the glue (or mod podge) on
it takes a while for it to dry.

So we will be making some valentine tags in the
"down" time.

The day is Friday
The time is noon to 3pm.

Last week went pretty well.  The first hour was slow,
but about 2 O'clock the store was full and
we had a lot more interest.

I've made some signs this week so
I think more people will know
what we are doing.

Another book page wreath

This is my second book page wreath.
I have had a lot of interest in the Thrift Store Crafting session.
Tomorrow is the day.
Hope to see a lot of people come out and have some fun
learning to craft from materials found in the Thrift Store.

Thrift Store Crafting

I have been thinking about ways to increase
sales in the Thrift Store.

What about making a craft in the store
from things in found in the store?

I think it will work.

So this Friday I will be making book page
wreaths in the store for shoppers to watch me
and learn OR they can purchase the
finished product!!

I have also taken a lot of assorted frames
and candle holders and painted them
red to use in a Valentine display.

I'll let you know what happens!

Christmas Party in the Thrift Store.

On Sunday afternoon we turned our Thrift Store
into Christmas gathering for all the workers
and Volunteers.



These sweet ladies do a ton of work.
Most are volunteers.
Without them I'd be so overwelmed with donations.




They are so giving of their time and "muscle power"

Thrifty Roosters

 In the past when I blog about the Thrift Store it is the Sheltered Treasures in Calabash.

We have 3 stores and I have worked at 2 of them.
But, now I'll be blogging about the Ocean Isle Beach store.
This is mostly because I am the new manager and I'll be working just in that store. 

I am always looking for Roosters and Hens and I have

some really nice ones.

But I found this blue and antiqued white orb with

Roosters on it.  I love it.  I think it is antique, but I don't

know for sure. 

The price on it was $7.50 but you know that I get 

a discount and I brought it home for $4.00!!

                I also found this one and had to have it.

           Did I mention that I love to work in the Thrift Store?

Getting the Thrift Store ready for Valentines Day!!

I work at a Thrift Store.

It is So Fun!!

Everyday we get lots & lots of donations.

We are nonprofit and benefit PROVIDENCE HOME for teens in need of a temporary home.

Sometimes parents are sick (or dying).

Sometimes parents have issues (like drugs, sinful habits, violent actions) and

kids need a place to stay for a while (3 months is the max.) to see if the issues

can be resolved or a family member can step up and take them.

They may need foster care, but this is a place to go and wait and see.

Isn't the store lovely?

We try to keep only good, clean and sweet smelling stuff.
Honest, we do !!

Our donors are the best!

I work hard, at the cash register mostly, but I always have bags of clothes, or

boxes of glassware or dishes etc. to clean between customers.

When I get home I'm tired.

all that lifting and dragging things to the dumpster and hanging clothes can wear a person out!

But, the Lord gave me a job that suits me and makes me feel that I am doing a useful thing.

THRIFT STORE FIND

Don't you just love this chicken egg plate?

I've been changing my kitchen decor to chicken & rooster mode.

I found this at the Thrift Store this week.

I also found this yellow and red dot fabric to make the table cover and 4 placemats.

Thrift Store

Hi everyone,
I have been so busy all week, this is the second week for me being back at work after lazing around all summer. I had planned to go back to my teaching job at a small private school, but that didn't happen because our enrollment was so low that most of the teachers were not invited back. The family that runs the school (as a business) is covering all the bases.

So, I am working at a thrift store. I know what your thinking, a thrift store is a dirty dingy place that smells like someones basement. (right??)

Not this Thrift Store!!

It is a non-profit benefit store for a Baptist Childrens Home called "Providence Home".

The home provides a place for kids to live when parents are in accidents, very sick, in rehab, or in jail. Many reasons for kids to need a home for a few months.

Now to the Store. I am posting these photos I took on Wednesday and Thursday.

Isn't the store lovely? Nice place to work, and nice people to spend your day with. I have worked summers for this store. Now it looks like it will be my perminent job for a while.

I am grateful for the job and the chance to see all the bargains and all the nice people.

Sometimes you will see the craziest things in the Thrift Store...I always have to cover my amusement at some of the people that come in. We have the people that ask "Will you be getting any (whatever) in soon?"

We don't know, it's a thrift store, donations come in every hour and things go out every minute...we don't know what will be there from one minute to the next.

"When will this be on sale?' If I knew I couldn't tell ya...Sales are to make people impulse buy.

If you want it, you'd better get it today.

But, the funniest thing happened this week, a guy came in with "sagged pants"...He walked all through the store with his pants down low,--I mean really low...you know "obsene" low...

He went around a corner and his pants fell down...lower....So he pulled them up, and went right

on walking...

I just had been taking photos of the shop and had my camera out and ready to go!!
